About electrical in Metro Manila

Electrical work in a Metro Manila home ranges from a loose outlet cover to a full circuit upgrade. Small jobs, such as replacing a switch, fixing a flickering light, or connecting a ceiling fan, are common and usually fit in one visit. Work on the main panel, new circuits, or a Meralco service problem is different. Those jobs need a qualified electrician and, for many of them, a permit and an inspection.

Two rules apply to most condos. The electrical room and the building's main lines belong to the condo corporation, so do not open them. Meralco owns the meter, the service drop, and the seal on the meter base. Tampering with those is illegal and dangerous. A tasker can fix the wiring inside your unit, after the distribution board, and can tell you when a Meralco call is the right next step.

What is included

  • Testing outlets, switches, and fixtures with a tester or multimeter
  • Replacing a wall outlet, switch, dimmer, or USB socket
  • Installing a ceiling light, fan, or wall light on an existing box
  • Fixing a flickering light, loose connection, or warm outlet after diagnosis
  • Replacing a tripped or failing breaker with the same rating (no panel rewiring)
  • A written list of what was found and what still needs a licensed electrician

How booking electrical works

  1. Step 1

Describe the job and say whether a breaker trips, a light is out, or a switch feels warm or smells of burning.

  2. Step 2

If anything is hot, smoking, or sparking, switch off its breaker before you wait for a quote. Take a photo of the panel label.

  3. Step 3

Clear the work area and note which breaker controls the fixture, so the electrician can test without guessing.

  4. Step 4

After the visit, ask the electrician to test each repaired point and explain what changed. Keep the receipts for parts.

Tips for booking electrical

  • Label the breakers in your unit if you have a panel inside the unit. A clear label saves time when something must be switched off in a hurry.
  • Check the brand and the box depth before buying a replacement switch or outlet. Some plates do not fit older boxes.
  • If the whole street or building loses power, check with Meralco first. Their outage notices and hotline will show whether the problem is outside your unit.
  • Expect more calls during typhoon season. Surge damage and tripped breakers after heavy rain are common, so book early.

Electrical in Metro Manila — FAQs

How much does electrical cost in Metro Manila?
In Metro Manila, electrical typically runs ₱500–₱2,000, averaging about ₱1,100. Taskly shows each tasker's hourly rate up front so there are no surprises.
Are Taskly taskers in Metro Manila verified?
Yes. Each tasker's government ID and NBI clearance is checked by the Taskly team before they're approved to quote. You can also see ratings and completed-task counts on each profile.
How do I book electrical in Metro Manila?
Browse verified taskers, compare rates and reviews, pick the person you want, and book online — choose a time and pay by card. Taskly holds the payment and releases it to your tasker after the job is done.
How do I pay, and are there fees?
You pay by card through Stripe when you book — no cash needed. Posting and booking are free: you pay the agreed price, with no fee added at checkout.
Do I need a PRC-licensed electrician for every job?
No. Small repairs, such as a switch, an outlet, or a fixture, can be done by a skilled electrician. Panel work, new circuits, and service upgrades are different. For those, ask for a PRC-licensed master electrician and check the license number. Taskly checks government ID and NBI clearance, which is not the same as a PRC license.
What if my meter or the Meralco service line is damaged?
Do not open the meter base or touch the service drop. Report the damage to Meralco, because only Meralco can repair or replace its meter and service line. A tasker can check the wiring on your side of the meter after Meralco has finished.
Why does a breaker keep tripping?
A breaker trips when a circuit draws too much current, a wire is damaged, or a device has a short. Common causes are an aircon or water heater on a shared circuit, a damaged plug, or moisture in a fixture. Repeated tripping is a reason to stop and have the circuit checked, not a reason to fit a bigger breaker.
Can I install an aircon outlet myself?
A dedicated aircon outlet usually needs the correct cable size, a matching breaker rating, and a properly grounded receptacle. Get a quote before you buy parts. An electrician can tell you whether the existing circuit can take the load, and whether the building admin requires a work permit first.
How do I prepare the unit for an electrician visit?
Clear the area around the panel, fixture, or outlet, and know which breakers control which rooms. Keep pets away from open boxes and tools. Tell the tasker whether the building needs a gate pass or work permit, and send it before the visit.
Is it safe to work while the power is on?
Electricians switch power off wherever they can and confirm a circuit is dead with a tester before they touch wires. Ask the tasker to switch off the relevant breaker before they start. If the job cannot be done with the power off, the quote should say so and explain the precautions.
